Media Description: Sculpture

A mix-media sculptor of animals, Linda Raynolds grew up overseas exposed to a wide variety of cultures. After undergraduate studies in anthropology, she pursued sculpture at New York's Art Students League with Sidney Simon. She joined the Phoenix Gallery and was part of a cooperative of sculptors with studios.

In the Spring of 2003, Raynolds was chosen to participate in Casper's "Where the Buffalo Roam." Her life-size fiberglass buffalo cow, containing a sculpted calf within, was auctioned to support the Nicolaysen Art Museum. Her work is in the collection of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center at Cody, Wyoming and is a member of the Society of Animal Artists.

Artist's Statement:
I grew up traveling in a Foreign Service family, and went to a boarding High School where I was first introduced to the study of sculpture by Robin Spry Campbell. Later, after forays into anthropology, I ended up at the Art Students League as a student of sculptor Sidney Simon. I owe Sidney a lot.
Wyoming has always been my spiritual home, and when I was able I made it my physical residence as well. I have a wonderful studio in Cody, Wyoming, (a town with its own fine-art foundry), and a mountain hideaway where I can go to refresh myself in the beautiful landscape. The wildlife, and the domestic animals, especially horses, that populate the area are an endless source of inspiration.

*2003 - Stone Soup Studios
I founded an artists studio facility, the centerpiece of which is a brand new "green" building, incorporating passive solar siting, solar hot water space-heating, and a photovoltaic net-metering system. My tenants include painters, sculptors, and art services.
