Biography
Allison McIntyre (b. 1999, West Virginia) blends animal imagery with digital aesthetics to explore contemporary human-animal relations, delving into issues such as the climate crisis and extinction. She received a B.F.A. in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2020, and her work has been exhibited across the U.S., including the “Animal Farm” exhibition at the Gutstein Gallery in Savannah and "Modern Animal Fables" at Visions West Contemporary in Montana. Currently based in Orlando, Florida, McIntyre is furthering her education in animal sciences at the University of Central Florida.
McIntyre’s diverse practice reflects on the intricate relationship between humans and the natural world in the Anthropocene, emphasizing the interconnectedness of our ecosystem. Her work critically examines the artificial environments and mediated interactions between humans and animals, using mediums like trail cameras and video games to reveal hidden behaviors and question our synthetic perceptions of nature.
Her pieces often depict the artificiality of animals' environments and the ways in which they are objectified and contained, whether in zoos, museums, or digital media. By highlighting the digital proliferation of animal imagery, she underscores the growing absence of wildlife in our daily lives and prompts reflection on our role in the current environmental crisis.
McIntyre's work, with its foreboding, foggy atmosphere and visuals of smoke, evokes a sense of environmental destruction and impending crisis. This powerful imagery engages viewers and offers a thought-provoking commentary on the Anthropocene. She aims to shift perceptions and foster a deeper connection with the natural world, advocating for a more inclusive and harmonious relationship with all Earth's inhabitants. Through her evocative and multifaceted practice, McIntyre invites us to reconsider our place in the ecosystem and the urgent need for environmental responsibility and care.
