Biography Ousmane Niang was born in 1989 in Tamba, Senegal. He lives and works between Paris and Dakar. A graduate of Dakar National School of Arts, Ousmane Niang stands out for the pointillist technique he has used since the beginning of his career, as well as for the anthropomorphic figures inhabiting his work. Ousmane Niang’s paintings used to make a clear distinction between anthropomorphic animals and the wild, as well as domesticated animals. This dichotomy illustrated questions of domination and hierarchy. In his most recent work, this split is no longer so clear-cut. Humans merge with nature, giving an image of harmony and cohesion. In addition to the striking animal figures in Ousmane Niang’s work, the dots that inhabit and adorn his paintings are also characteristic of his art. If each point is double for Ousmane Niang, each problem comes with its solution. In doing so, he suggests avenues for reflection. It is a call to remain on the lookout, to concentrate on a situation to solve it. His paintings are not meant to be only contemplated. They are a call to action. Ousmane Niang’s work has been showcased during international art fairs such as 1-54 London (UK), 1-54 New York (USA), Art X Lagos (Nigeria), Investec Cape Town (South Africa) and AKAA (France). More recently, it has been the subject of a solo presentation at Untitled Art Miami (USA).
